Our Family Business
Ray Ferwerda Sr. founded Great Southern Equipment over fifty years ago when Florida was rapidly expanding, and he saw an opportunity to be a part of that growth by providing construction and road building equipment, parts and service. Today, his son, Ray Ferwerda Jr., is now in charge of the business. Now with seven locations, Ray Jr. continues the legacy that his father began by building lasting relationships with contractors and municipalities throughout Florida.
By design, Great Southern Equipment has grown from a single location to seven branches serving all of Florida, while remaining true to its roots and continuing to provide the personal service and attention that is typically found in a much smaller company. It's a family business, and management maintains close relationships with customers; even the vice presidents have sales territories.
Our Equipment
Equipment lines have also expanded over the years. From selling the country's first Gradall machines to adding reliable brands like Hitachi, Kobelco, Link-Belt, Sakai, Vacall, and Kaiser, Great Southern Equipment has built its business by delivering outstanding service again and again.
Our Culture
The caring, customer focused culture that began with Ray Sr. is still in place with his son Ray Jr. and all the long serving employees who help our customers keep working. An open door policy encourages communication and problem solving and makes everyone feel like an equal partner on the team.
Our Customers
Our focus is on our customers and what it takes to run their businesses, not just their equipment. Everyone at Great Southern Equipment always thinks in terms of our customers and makes the decisions that benefit our customers the most.
